When I started out in advertising in 1994 I was terrified of public speaking. I avoided it at all costs. Everything changed when I saw the incoming CEO at BBDO New York speak in front of his 1000+ staff for the very first time. For context, he was replacing a much loved CEO and we were skeptical to say the least. He addressed the crowd and spoke for no more than 20 minutes. Everyone in the audience, from the janitor to the MD, was completely under his spell. He’d converted the entire agency with one speech. I instantly made it my mission to become a great public speaker. I’ll always be fine tuning my technique but at least I now love it and do it as often as I can.

Pitching is a core part of what we do at UBS and we’re always looking for new ways to increase our edge over the competition. Our most senior executives, the people who pitch every day, worked with JP to fine tune their skills and learn about his unique approach to the discipline. We found JPs material to be highly insightful, original and practical. He delivered it in a way that made it instantly applicable to our live projects. We found his take on storytelling particularly relevant for our business and it continues to shape how we pitch on a daily basis. Like most high performance teams, we’ve done lots of training courses over the years but JP and Winning The Room remain a real stand out.

At Mars Food Australia, our focus is on shifting our culture to drive pace and focus so we can unlock our people’s full potential. As business leaders, JP stretched us to think differently about the commercial impact of storytelling. JP not only gave us the tools to engage and inspire our people, he also helped us put theory into action fast within a safe environment. Storytelling is an essential part of any great leaders skillset and JPs approach, insight and energy gave us the structure and confidence to start applying what we learnt the very next day.

JP had the audience hanging off his every word when he spoke at our recent ELLE Inspires event, The Ideas Lab. He was funny, engaging and incorporated incredibly relevant examples and exercises to help the ELLE audience get their heads around bringing more creativity into their day-to-day lives. He enriched the event in a very real and purposed way and helped to make it the great success that it was.

Balancing Tradition and Embracing Innovation: What is redefining the luxury experience, was the theme of this year’s forum. So who better to add his digital marketing expertise than JP! Jonathan was a highlight keynote at the luxury sector’s annual forum, deLux15 in April 2015 and due to the audience not having enough, we asked him to grace the stage again as a deluxforum alumni for deLux16 in August 2016. An excellent presenter, who really owns his content, he is not shy to dig deeper and throw out some challenging questions for the audience to think about. His energy, anecdotes and presentation style absolutely engages the audience and they are gifted with tangible takeaways.

What a clever guy! This is the 3rd time Jonathan has hosted our annual AHL conference. He really owns the room from the start and his large-scale workshop techniques are amazing. This year he conducted a giant brainstorm session with our entire company of 250 people at once! I’ve been to a lot of conferences over the years and I’ve never seen anything quite like it before. It was a big task but amazingly JP was able to lead the group and spend individual time with almost everyone. What I found most impressive was JP’s ability to bring our creative ideas back to tangible commercial outcomes. Really impressive stuff.

JP is an engaging and entertaining speaker. The Audi Australia management team recently invited JP to present his key findings from the International CES in Las Vegas and what we received was a short and sweet executive summary with clear and insightful information about this key event, which spoke directly to our senior leadership team with just the right amount of detail. The presentation was thoughtfully developed with engaging themes designed to draw a smile from a hardened audience, and did just that. We thoroughly enjoyed it and walked away with a clear idea of the key trends presented at the event. We’ll definitely invite him back!

Jonathan was part of our speaker line-up at our conference, SAGE (Secrets of Agency Excellence) which featured some of Australia’s leading agency bosses, strategists, creative directors and client services directors. Jonathan moderated a session on strategy and planning which was one of the most well attended sessions in our conference. He steered the panelists through the main issues impacting strategists and planners with a great command and knowledge of the industry. I would not hesitate to invite him as a speaker to any future event we may hold as the biggest organiser of events in the media and marketing sector in Australia.

Technology moves at such a rapid pace these days it often feels impossible to keep up with. Your presentation really inspired us to rethink how we work with technology. It was all great but I especially enjoyed how you unpacked the latest technology trends and made them useful for our business. The office has been abuzz with new ideas and innovations ever since you left! Thank you very much.

We always enjoy an audience with JP – he brings creative colour, true consumer consideration, a geek-tech savviness, and a flair for story-telling to any room. We took the opportunity to have JP share with key stakeholders in our ASOS global team the key outputs from the annual CES in Las Vegas. His review was entertaining, informative, & considered. It was the perfect way to get a first-hand account of the highlights of the show from someone whom we trust plus have it delivered in a relaxed and collaborative environment. I’ve got no doubt JP would provide an engaging, creative & interesting delivery & point-of-view whomever the audience and whatever the topic. He is a true thought leader.

JP was absolutely loved by our audience at Vivid. He MC¹d the event with grace and humour and really tied together all the presentations with business relevant outcomes. JP also did a keynote speech on the day about creating an ideas culture at work that was riveting. The audience couldn’t get enough of him!

It takes a lot to grab and hold the attention of a room full of highly talented, creative lighting designers and their friends. Especially when the drinks and conversation are flowing in equal quantities. But that is exactly what highly regarded advertising executive Jonathan Pease was able to do at the inaugural illumni infinity awards in March 2013 at Sydney’s Boutwell Draper Gallery. (The infinity awards are dedicated to celebrating the unlimited creativity of lighting designers around the globe.) JP silenced the hum and through storytelling delivered a precise, entertaining, interactive presentation that engaged with the audience from beginning to end. Entitled ‘How to have big ideas’ it contained colour, facts, stunning visuals, personal anecdotes and humour. He really was funny.
The evening was a huge success due in no small part to JP’s input.
